GUWAHATI: After busting the drugs and brokers rackets, the Assam Police have launched a major crackdown on the fake TET-certificate racket in the State.
Meanwhile till the filing of this report, the CID (Criminal Investigation Department) has registered a case (10/2021 u/s 120B/420/467/471 IPC) against 36 teachers who had obtained appointment based on forged TET certificates.
This move follows an investigation of the Education Department. This departmental probe exposed the fact that many individuals are working as TET teachers producing fake TET certificates in a number of districts.
Mentionably during the last two days, as many as 22 teachers have been arrested after their TET certificates were found forged, while more than 100 teachers have been issued notices to show cause for such forgery, said sources.
Moreover, more than 15 other teachers are under the scanner of the State police.
Police have reasons to believe that many officials of the Education Department are involved in the racket, said sources.
The racket was first exposed during the appointment of TET teachers in BTR (Bodoland Territorial Region) forcing the Education Department to conduct a departmental inquiry into it.
The police also busted a fake-certificate racket in Nagaon a few days back. A bunch of college and university certificates, including seals and letter heads were also recovered during the raid.
While admitting the fact, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told the media that the police will conduct a thorough probe into the case and book all the culprits involved in it.
