Malaria and dengue reducing but AES/Japanese encephalitis rising in Assam

According to the 'National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, though malaria and dengue are reducing yet cases of acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) / JE (Japanese encephalitis) are rising.

GUWAHATI: According to the 'National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, though malaria and dengue are reducing yet cases of acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) / JE (Japanese encephalitis) are rising.

In 2018, of the 1492 AES cases there were 183 casualties. Insofar as JE is concerned, of the were 509 cases, there were 94 deaths.

In 2019, of the 2,652 AES cases there were 353 casualties. On the other hand, of the 642 JE cases, there were 161 casualties.

In 2020, of the 595 AES cases, there were 96 casualties.

Of the 320 JE cases, there were 51 casualties.

In 2021 (Till September), of the 435 AES cases, casualties were 80:

During that year, of the 212 JE cases, there were 39 deaths.

In comparison to AES and JE, dengue and malaria cases are less.

Insofar as dengue is concerned, the data is as follows: 2018: 166: 2019: 196; 2020: 33; 2021 (till October): 55 cases. There was no casualty during this period.

In 2018 of the 3,816 malaria cases, there were two deaths.

In 2019, of the 1,459 malaria cases, there were four deaths.

In 2020, of the 484 cases, there were two deaths.

In 2021 (till August), there were 83 cases.
