GUWAHATI: An unidentified group of five persons on Thursday evening shot at a person identified as Shyam Sundar Ratowa from close range in the Kumarpara area here. An employee of Jagadamba Iron and Steel Industries at Kumarpara under Bharalumukh Police Station Ratowa later succumbed to injuries at a private hospital.
Police sources informed that the group came to the shop sometime around 4-5 pm, and asked in Hindi, “Who’s Shyam?” When the person replied in the positive, one among the group fired at him. The bullet hit the person’s right neck. Following the incident, the group fled the scene leaving behind a bag.
The 55 year-old victim hailing from Rajasthan has been working in the establishment for several years.
Incidentally, the proprietor of the business establishment is Shyamlal Sharma.
Police suspect that the group was probably in search of the proprietor, and mistook Ratwa to be the person they were looking for.
Police has commenced investigation.
