Maoist assigned to spread 'ideology' in Assam arrested by NIA

GUWAHATI: The NIA (National Investigation Agency) arrested a CPI (Maoist) cadre – Samrat Chakraborty alias Amit alias Argha alias Nirmal alias Nirman alias Nilkamal Sikdar (37) – from West Bengal on Monday. Veteran CPI (Maoist) ideologue and strategist Kanchan da had assigned Samrat Chakraborty to spread CPI (Maoist) ideology in Assam and the Northeast.

The NIA arrested the cadre while pursuing a CPI (Maoist) accused in connection with a case in the Cachar District (RC-01/2022/NIA/GUW).

Samrat Chakraborty is the son of the Late Ratan Chakraborty, Seth Bagan Road, North 24 Paragana, Kolkata-30. The NIA sleuths arrested him from Mahispata near Narayana School on Kalyani Expressway, North 24 Paragana, West Bengal.

The case relates to the arrest of veteran Maoist leader Arun Kumar Bhattacharjee alias Jyotish alias Kabir alias Kanak and Kanchan da of West Bengal, a Central Committee Member and an ideologue and strategist of CPI (Maoist) organization. On September 2 this year, NIA filed a charge sheet against six arrested persons in the Special NIA Court, Guwahati.

Further investigations in the case revealed that accused Samrat Chakraborty is an active member of the CPI (Maoist) organization based in West Bengal. He was a linkman in clandestine communication between the top hierarchy of the CPI (Maoist) organization and Kanchan Da, who was operating from his hideout in Assam.
