GUWAHATI: While launching Mission Basundhara 2.0, the Assam Government laid emphasis on the fact that the land settlement process would be indigenous-people-friendly. The government also said that all the applications would be carefully examined. After scrutiny, more than 1 lakh applications have been rejected.

Due to various errors, 1,08,821 applications have been rejected in the preliminary stage of verification. The process of verification has been almost completed, and 12,30,776 applications have been found eligible. To ensure that no applicant resorts to any kind of deceit while applying for land settlement under Mission Basundhara 2.0, the government has introduced the system of geotagging. Sources in the State Revenue and Disaster Management Department said that geotagging has been almost completed, only a few districts are left where the process of geotagging was delayed due to flood.

The government has instructed the district and subdivision administrations to begin conducting the meetings of the Subdivision Land Advisory Committees (SDLAC). These committees will examine the land settlement applications received and decide which claims are genuine. In rural areas, the recommendation of the SDLAC will be enough for land settlement, but in urban areas, the recommendation of the SDLAC will be forwarded to the government, which will give the final approval for land settlement. According to sources, the disposal of land settlement claims will start from tomorrow, phase-wise.

The applications received under various heads are – Occupancy tenant: 39,048 applications; annual patta (AP) transfer: 1,21,791 applications; Tribal communities: 22,273 applications; Khas land: 10,48,032 applications; PGR/VGR land: 96,744 applications; and Special cultivators: 11,709 applications.
