GUWAHATI: The State police forces have started an investigation to ascertain if the Asom-Miya (Asomiya) Parishad has any jihadi link. Apart from Mohar Ali and Abdul Baten, the police also arrested three others – Tanu Dhadumia from Dibrugarh, Sadeq Ali from Howli, and Jekibul Ali from Ghograpar. Dhadumia had inaugurated the Miya Museum.

According to Special DGP GP Singh, the police will interrogate the three detainees to ascertain their 'association' with Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and Al Qaeda.

Police sources said that recently police arrested a few jihadis from the Ghograpar Police Station area in the Nalbari district. During their interrogation, the police got some clues regarding the Miya Museum. The police today brought Abdul Baten and Mohar Ali to Nalbari for interrogation. In connection with the Ghograpar police case (163/22), the police arrested five persons, including Mohar Ali, Abdul Baten and Tanu Dhadumia. The other two are Sadeq Ali and Jekibul Ali. The court sent all five to police custody – five days' custody for Sadeq Ali and Jekibul Ali and two days for the other three.

Meanwhile, the Scheduled Caste Students' Union lodged an FIR each at Panbazar Police in Guwahati and Lakhipur police station in the Goalpara district against the Asom-Miya (Asomiya) Parishad today. They complained that the Miya Museum displayed fishing appliances like jakoi, khaloi, khorahi etc., which the Scheduled Caste people traditionally use.

Reacting to the development, Padmashri Dr Illias Ali said, "The setting up of the Miya Museum is a plan to disintegrate the greater Assamese society. I support the steps taken by the government against Miya Museum. I appeal to the Muslims of East Bengal origin to oppose the Miya culture."

Noted intellectual Nekibur Zaman said, "The Miya culture is a plan to create unrest in the greater Assamese society. It is known to all that there is no community called Miya. It is a fact that most of the jihadis arrested in the state are from the Miya-dominated areas. That itself indicates their plan to create unrest in the state. The government should act tough against such forces."
