GUWAHATI: The State government has hinted on giving more relaxations during the ongoing lockdown period from next week. For example, though night curfew will continue till August 15, inter-district buses will start plying every Monday and Tuesday.

Giving these details here on Saturday, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma further said, "The shopping malls and also the gymnasiums will be allowed to open on alternate sides on alternate days. We'll announce the details of the manpower that they would be allowed to go for.

"However, the attendance in government offices will be 100 %.

"We're allowing these lockdown relaxations as the COVID-19 situation appears to be slightly improving, especially in Guwahati. But, if the public fails to follow the necessary Health guidelines like mandatory wearing of face masks and maintenance of social distancing, the government will be compelled to again take strict measures including extension of lockdown."

Focusing on the gradual improvement in the pandemic scenario across Kamrup (Metro), Sarma said, "On July 4, the positive rate was 33.5%. On July 31, the positive patients' curve came down to 4.5%."

He added, "We've set a target to test 50,000 residents all over Assam on August 4.
