Amit Shah’s visit to State postponed to May 26

GUWAHATI: To mark the completion of two years of the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government in Assam, the Assam Government will sign Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with various industries and companies on Tuesday for investment of more than Rs 8,000 crore in the State.
In a move that will usher in an era of investment in the State, the government will sign MoUs with various companies for starting different projects in the State. Talking to media persons in Guwahati today, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that a MoU will be signed with PepsiCo for starting a potato chips industry. In addition, MoU will also be signed for starting a cement industry, an electric vehicle manufacturing unit, etc.
“Assam is emerging as a suitable place for investment. Many investors are keen to invest in the State. Today, the Tata Group visited the Jagiroad Paper Mill,” said the Chief Minister while exuding confidence that the State will see more investment in the near future.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah was supposed to visit the State on May 11 to hand over around 50,000 job appointment letters. However, Shah’s visit to the State has been postponed to May 26. So the appointment letters will be distributed on May 26 instead of May 11. “Home Minister Amit Shah is monitoring the situation in Manipur, so he has postponed his visit to Assam,” said Sarma.
Although the distribution of appointment letters has been postponed, the newly-appointed persons will join service on June 1, 2023, he added.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) formed the government in Assam for the second consecutive term in 2021 with a promise to provide one lakh jobs. “All these 1 lakh jobs will be permanent and not contractual. Today, the recruitment results for various jobs in the police, forest, and excise departments have been published. Tonight, the list for recruitment of ME and LP school teachers will also be declared, and on May 10, the list for recruitment to Grade III and Grade IV posts in the health department will be declared. By July, the government will start recruitment drive for filling up another 10,000 vacant posts,” he said and added, “The recruitment process to all these jobs has been fair and transparent.”
When asked if the departments will bring out a waiting list of candidates for recruitment, the Chief Minister said, “As per the FRBM Act, no government department can have a waiting list for recruitment or it will invite a jail term of three years for the government officer who brings out the waiting list.”
He said that the 50,000 appointees who will receive their appointment letters on May 26, will join duty between June 1 to June 15, 2023. “After June 15 we will get a clear picture of how many have joined and how many have opted out. Of course, the number of people who do not join will be very small,” he said.
Sarma said that on May 26 when Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Assam, he will also lay the foundation stone of the National Forensic Sciences University in North Guwahati. “The Sri Madhabdev Kalakshetra in Bihpuria will be inaugurated on May 10. The same day, there will be a ceremonial distribution of Ayushman Bharat cards,” said the Chief Minister. He also expressed hope that the Batadrava Than cultural project would be completed this year. “Tomorrow I will be inspecting the ongoing work on this project,” he added.
