National Investigation Agency (NIA) charge sheet against Maoist

GUWAHATI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed an additional charge sheet in the NIA Special Court, Assam, against CPI (Maoist) activist Samrat Chakraborty alias Nirman alias Nirmal alias Nilkamal Sikdar of West Bengal, in connection with the case involving the arrest of Arun Kumar Bhattacharjee alias Kanchan Da alias Jyotish Da alias Kabir and Kajal Urang alias Akash Urang alias Bablu from the Cachar district of Assam earlier this year.

The case was initially registered as an FIR (No 02/2022) at the Crime Branch Police Station here and re-registered by the NIA on March 16 this year. Earlier, NIA had charge-sheeted six accused persons on September 2, 2022.

Samrat Chakraborty has been charge-sheeted under Section 120B of IPC and Sections 18,20,38 of UA(P) Act.

NIA sources informed Samrat Chakraborty was an active member of the proscribed CPI (Maoist) and was a part of the conspiracy hatched by the organization's leadership to expand its set-up and operational base in Assam. He stayed at various hideouts/locations in the Cachar district of Assam with the intention of expanding and strengthening the CPI (Maoist) organization and worked as a linkman for its leadership in different regions.
