GUWAHATI: Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said that the schools in the state would start their 2024–25 academic session as per the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) under NEP-2020.

The NCF-SE is the curriculum framework for the 5+3+3+4 design of schooling as proposed under the NEP 2020.

Taking part as the chief guest at the award-giving ceremony on the occasion of Teachers’ Day today, the minister said, “Assam is one of the states in the country where four-year undergraduate (UG) courses have become a reality. We studied the NEP-2020 and implemented it in the state within two years. Colleges and universities held workshops and recommended them to the government. The Centre announced the NCF-SE in August. We have pledged to implement it in the next academic session after studying it for a year.”

Spelling out the role of college teachers in the state, the minister said, “The colleges have to play the role of mentors for schools. They need to handhold the nearby schools and take them forward. Education may include schooling and higher education. And these two need to have a link, and the colleges have to play the role of mentors to bridge the gap. The colleges need to hold discussions with their nearby schools on NCF-SE and extend suggestions to the government.”

The Education Department gave away state teacher awards to 36 teachers on the occasion of the 62nd Teachers’ Day at the function today. The Education Minister felicitated and gave away awards to nine college teachers for patenting their research work. The minister also felicitated the heads of nine colleges that got an A+ in NAAC accreditation.

Meanwhile, 430 teachers who got national and state awards received a personal letter each from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today. Officials handed over the letters to the teachers concerned at their respective residences.
