GUWAHATI: The NIA (National Investigation Agency) on Friday filed a charge sheet against three accused persons relating to an ambush which resulted in the death of the then Additional Superintendent of Police, Sonitpur, Gulzar Hussain and a civilian identified as Anlark Basumatary, besides causing injuries to several other police personnel in January 2014. The three accused are Bishnu Narzary alias Berama, Nitul Daimary alias Naihab and Runiluish Diamary alias Monthai.

The charge sheet was filed before the NIA Special Court, Assam, in Guwahati. The charges are under Sections 16,18,20 of Unlawful Activities (P) Act read with Sections 34/120B/302/307 and 326 of Indian Penal Code and Section 27 of the Arms Act.

The case was initially registered as FIR No.61/2014 dated January 28, 2014 of Dhekiajuli Police Station, Assam, Sonitpur district. The NIA had re-registered the case as RC-09/2019/NIA/GUW on August 7, 2019 and taken over the investigation.

Sources informed that investigation of the case has revealed that members of the NDFB-S (National Democratic Front of Boroland- Songbijit) had laid the ambush. Two of the charge-sheeted accused in the case, namely, Bishnu Narzary and Nitul Daimary have been also convicted in another case (RC-04/2014/NIAGUW) wherein Bishnu Narzary has been given death sentence and Nitul Daimary sentenced to life imprisonment.

Two other NDFB cadres viz., Kham Kham Daimary alias Lotham and Junu Basumatary alias B Sijou alias Sijou — who were involved in the crime — have been already killed in separate encounters with security forces. Further investigation in the case continues, added the source.
