GUWAHATI: The North East Students' Organization (NESO) is holding talks with students' organizations of all NE States to bring normalcy and peace along the inter-state borders.
This was stated by the president of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) Dipanka Kumar Nath while speaking to The Sentinel on Tuesday. "The AASU is hopeful of early return of peace along the Assam-Mizoram border," Nath said.
On the other hand, a joint statement issued by AASU general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah and president Dipanka Kumar Nath on Tuesday stated the Monday's violence along the Assam-Mizoram border took place 24 hours after Union Home Minister Amit Shah left Guwahati after holding talks with the Chief Ministers of seven NE States in Shillong to resolve the inter-state border disputes. The AASU said the development is evident that the Shillong talks between the Union Home Minister and CMs of NE States are a failure. The Centre has also failed to solve the border row, the AASU alleged.
"Since the governments in all NE States are now part of the NDA Government at the Centre there is a huge scope to resolve the boundary disputes among the States. While the resolution is still far away, it is tragic that five Assam Police personnel have been killed along the Assam-Mizoram border. The Assam Government must protect the land of Assam. The State Government must also ensure that not a single inch of the land of Assam is encroached upon along inter-state borders in future," the AASU said in its statement.
Strongly condemning Monday's incident the AASU has expressed its sincere condolences to the family of those killed in the Assam-Mizoram border violence and wishes early recovery of those injured.
