BAKSA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that the new Assam would be 'Atmanirbhar', and after May 2 the new BJP-led government would step up its new growth mission in the State with a renewed vigour.

The Prime Minister said that many developmental projects, including road connectivity, have been accomplished and many more are being undertaken to transform Assam into an 'Atmanirbhar' State.

Addressing an election rally in Tamulpur constituency on Saturday, Modi said, "In Assam, connectivity has been made better through rapid development of roads, including Bhupen Hazarika Bridge, Bogibeel Bridge etc. Construction of half a-dozen large-sized bridges is still underway, and the connectivity has been improved by constructing new railway roads during the five-year rule of the NDA government. The national and international communication system has been improved by expanding Gopinath Bardoloi Airport as well as improving Dhubri-Rupshree airport. The NDA government has done the work that no government can do in the last five years.

"New dimensions have come up in trade, transportation etc. This has made it possible to develop industries. With its 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas and Sabka Biswas' maxim, the Bharatiya Janata Party has removed differences among different caste and communities. The Bharatiya Janata Party has been working with great confidence for social service across the country."

The Prime Minister urged militants who are still following the path of terrorism to lay down their arms and join the mainstream of society.

"The people of Assam voted against the Congress-led 'Mahajot' and gave their mandate for the double-engine government for the second time in Assam in the first two phases of elections," Modi asserted.

Modi said that the NDA Government's main aim and objective is to make peace in the BTR (Bodoland Territorial Region).

Talking about the tourist areas of the district like Bagamati, Manas Sanctuaries etc., Modi said the Bharatiya Janata Party would make arrangements to attract tourists by improving tourist destinations.

BTC (Bodoland Territorial Council) chief Pramod Boro said that lasting peace has returned to the BTR after the Prime Minister's visit to the region. "Now the path of development has been opened," he said.
