SLOW PROGRESS OF FOUR-LANING
STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI: NHIDCL (National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd) has foreclosed the four-laning work of three national highway stretches from Nagaon to Dibrugarh due to slow progress. It has also put the construction companies on the negative list. The four-lane works of the national highway from Nagaon to Dibrugarh started in 2015.
NHIDCL sources said the cumulative physical progress of work in the 16.86-km Dolabari-Jamuguri stretch of the highway is 54.16 per cent (work awarded in September 2017). M/s Simplex Infrastructure was doing the work. The progress of the 57.5-km Biswanath-Gohpur stretch is 52.21 per cent (work awarded in January 2016). M/s Ramkey – TKE (Joint Venture) was doing the construction work. The progress of the 37.8-km Jorhat-Jhanji stretch of the highway constructed by M/s Gannon Dunkerley Company Ltd is 27.32 per cent (work awarded in January 2018). NHIDCL sources said that despite repeated reminders, the progress of these three national highway stretches was slow, leading to the foreclosure of the three projects. NHIDCL has also put the construction companies on the negative list.
Talking to The Sentinel, NHIDCL Executive Director, Regional Office, Guwahati Pankaj Singh said, "Since NHIDCL has foreclosed the works of the three stretches, it has already floated tenders afresh. NHIDCL will resume the works of these three stretches of the national highway after awarding the contracts. If other construction companies also resort to slow progress of works, NHIDCL will act tough against them."
NHIDCL is a fully-owned company of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India.
