GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has appealed to all Durga Puja committees not to raise funds forcibly from the public.

Speaking to the media today, the Chief Minister said, “The State Government is against the ‘chanda culture’. So, I appeal to the Durga Puja committees not to raise funds for Durga Puja from the public forcibly. The people will provide donations or contributions to Durga Puja on their own. Nobody should pollute the atmosphere in the name of raising funds for Durga Puja.”

When asked where he would go for the puja, he said, “I will go to Hailakandi during the Durga, and then Lumding and Hojai. I will go for a day to my constituency. I will be in Guwahati as well. If I can make time, I will pay a visit to Billeswar Temple in Nalbari.”

The Durga Puja this year will span from October 20 (Shashthi) to October 24 (Dashami).
