GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Health Minister Keshab Mahanta today appealed to people of the state not to panic in the wake of the fresh wave of Covid-19 in China. They have also appealed to the people to take precautionary measures.

Talking to the media, Keshab Mahanta said, "We have received suggestions from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. In the event of detection of any new Covid-19 case in the state, the Ministry has asked us to confirm through genome sequencing if the case is a new sub-variant of Omicron, BF.7. We will take measures after confirmation of the variant. We have no reason to panic. We have not detected any Covid-19 cases in the state for a month. We fought a fierce battle against Covid-19 earlier. Most people in the state have taken the first, second and booster doses of vaccines. Thus the people of the state are mostly immunized ones."

According to the Health Minister, the State government has not thought of any Covid-19 restrictions now. "The way the Centre is keeping watch on people entering the country from abroad, we will have to keep tabs on people entering the state from the rest of the country. We will take action based on instructions we receive from the Centre from time to time," he said.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said, "The fresh wave of Covid-19 in China is a cause of concern worldwide. However, as we read, Indian Covid-19 vaccines are stronger than those of China. The vaccines have given us a security shield. We should remain aware but not panic."
