Political Interference in Officers Transfer & Posting: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that his government will put an end to political interference in the transfer and posting of police. He has also said that now on transfer and posting will be dealt with by the Office of the DGP based on merit.

Visiting the Assam Police Headquarters here on Wednesday Chief Minister Sarma discussed a whole gamut of issues, including police modernisation. He asked the DGP to prepare a blueprint for police modernisation with a target to bring about fundamental changes to police within five years. He said that as part of the modernisation of the police forces, the government will push for transparent recruitment for absorbing the youths into all levels of the police forces. He also said the recruitment in the police forces will be carried out as part of the Government's commitment to recruiting one lakh youths in government departments.

Talking to reporters on the sideline of his visit, the Chief Minister said that the Government is working to rationalise the police stations across the State about the demands. "Now on there won't be any political interference in transfer and posting of police personnel. The Office of the DGP will deal with transfer and posting."

He also said plans are on the anvil to reduce pressure on the police forces. Regarding the allegations on the syndicate, Sarma said that if there is a report of the syndicate in the state, the matter should be brought immediately to the attention of the DGP for the police to take a remedial step instantly, a press release said.
