GUWAHATI: A meeting presided over by Housing & Urban Development Minister Ashok Singal has observed that the 'authority vacuum' in the issuance of permission for cables for various purposes has led to a messy situation in Guwahati, leading to accidents. The meeting has entrusted the Kamrup (M) DC to create a powerful authority to issue NOCs (non-objection certificates) and permissions for cable connections.
The meeting also decided to frame rules and regulations for issuing NOCs and permissions for cable connections. There is no authority for cable connections at present. People connect cable TV networks, the internet etc., from electric posts. Such cables remain hanging in a haphazard manner. Cables even lie on roads, leading to accidents.
The meeting told the Kamrup (M) DC to hold discussions with all stakeholders (departments and agencies) on this issue and frame rules, besides authorizing an official to issue permission for various cable connections.
Present at the meeting were the GMC Commissioner, representatives from the APDCL, BSNL, AMTRON and others.
