STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI:

Fulfill Assam Election Promises: Assam State NDA Leader and Chief Minister-designate Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the responsibility for the implementation of the commitments given to the people of the State in the run-up to the Assembly election will start soon after taking the oath.

Addressing the NDA Legislature Party meeting in the Assam Assembly after becoming the NDA Leader on Sunday, Sarma said, "We – BJP, AGP and UPPL – gave some assurances to the people of the State during the election. Our responsibility to meet those assurances will start soon after taking oath tomorrow. We need to make our state alive. We need to make Assam one of the five best states in the country.

"Taking a cue from the precedent set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in rendering services to mankind, we need to dedicate ourselves for the service of the people of Assam. We'll be considered successful only if we can woo the last person in society.

"Assam is our birthplace and India (Bharat) is the place of our civilisation and culture. We'll try our best to make Assam prosper."

Sarma further said that Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi, Swahid Khargeswar Talukdar, Bodofa Upendranath Brahma and the martyrs of the Assam Agitation did dream for the development of Assam. "In the past five years, Assam made stride under Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Under his leadership, the BTR Accord was signed, and the insurgents of Karbi Anglong joined the mainstream. In the past five years, we saw the restoration of peace and development in the State. Under Sonowal, we saw the politics of value that took the Barak, the Brahmaputra, hills and plains in the development trajectory together. The moon also has a blot, but the Sonowal Government doesn't have any.

What Next in Assam Under Himanta Biswa Sarma Leadership?

"We assure the people of the assam state that we'll follow the trail of ideology left behind by Sonowal. Sonowal was our leader, and he'll remain so. He is our guide. I'm personally grateful to him as he gave me the chance to serve the people of the state by giving me some important responsibility. I, on behalf of my family, thank him.

"Ours is the first non-Congress government that made it to Dispur for the second consecutive term in independent India. It's a record in the politics of Assam. The backroom boys of this win are the leaders and workers of the BJP, AGP and the UPPL. I express my gratitude to them. We assure the public that we'll reciprocate their faith in us with deeds.

"From 2014 Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the Northeast to the development trajectory. Under him, the Northeast has made a stride in air connectivity, train connectivity, road connectivity and Science and Technology. He visits Assam and the Northeast repeatedly, and that has developed a cordial relationship between him and the people of the region.

"The Assamese gamosa is seen bestrode his shoulder. He has taken the gamosa to the global forums. Even while taking the COVID-19 vaccine the gamosa was seen bestriding his shoulder. It's a matter of pride for Assam. I, on behalf of the three crore people of Assam, thank him."

Sarma further said that in the run-up to the Assembly election the Prime Minister led the campaign for the three NDA allies from the front. "National BJP president JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other national leaders of the BJP also instilled courage in us during the poll. We express gratitude to them for the win in the poll," he said.
