GUWAHATI: To ease off the patient rush at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), the authorities have started the online registration of patients. Along with the online registration for OPD (Outpatient Department) services, medical reports of the indoor patients will also be available online.
GMCH Principal Dr. Achyut Ch. Baishya said, “Patients can now register online at gmchims.assam.gov.in for OPD services.”
Sources said that a chaotic situation prevails in GMCH every day as thousands of patients from different parts of the state come here to avail medical treatment. Sources further said that although the government has established 12 medical colleges in various districts of the state to boost the health sector, this has not decreased the rush of patients in GMCH. This is primarily because the newly established medical colleges still do not have many healthcare facilities. Also, sources allege that most doctors in newly established medical colleges and hospitals refer patients to GMCH for better treatment. Due to the heavy rush of patients in GMCH, the doctors on duty cannot give the required time and attention to each patient.
Sources said, “The government must ensure that other medical colleges and hospitals can provide quality healthcare services to patients so that the patient flow in GMCH decreases.”
