GUWAHATI: Experts say that fast deterioration of patients' health, failure of patients' respiratory system with one or two days of fever are some of the marked differences between the second wave of COVID-19 and its first wave.
Talking to The Sentinel, DME (Director of Medical Education, Assam) Dr Anup Kumar Barman, who is also the Chairman of the State Death Audit Committee of COVID-19, said, "A few infected patients in the current COVID-19 wave collapse within three or four days. The respiratory system gets damaged for a fever of one or two days. All the dead patients of this wave had pneumonia fever. The current COVID-19 trend in the State is rising.
"The symptoms were different earlier in 2020 when the health of infected patients deteriorated slowly."
When asked about COVID-19 deaths in the State, Dr Barman said, "Three patients died of COVID-19 on April 20, seven on April 19 and six on April 18. So far, 1,145 people died of the virus in the State since 2020.
"People shouldn't go out unnecessarily. When they are to go out, they should wear face masks and maintain social distancing at all cost, besides adhering to the COVID-19 protocols set by the Government."
