GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that most of the people of the state have said good riddance to many age-old negative thoughts, and now they want to make strides with positive thoughts. Albeit, a minuscule section of people still tries to prick holes in every good work of the government, he said.

Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister said, “We have already spent Rs 1.02 lakh crore of the current Annual Budget till February. The budgetary expenditure will reach Rs 1.20 lakh crore by March 31. The state has made strides on all fronts. The exports of agrarian products alone fetched Rs 4,000 crore to the state farmers. It was beyond imagination for the farmers of the state earlier. Within a year, the classes of three medical colleges will start in the state. It’s a time to rejoice. Negative thoughts by a section of people in the state created a pessimistic ambience in the past. The state has now come out of that negative ambience.”

He said, “When the government started the drive against child marriages, a section of people created a hue and cry. A section of the media has also painted a gloomy picture of the situation, saying that even the Gauhati High Court has criticized the government on the issue. We have gone through the proceedings of the High Court but found no adverse comment against the government. However, the outcome of the drive is such that there has not been a single child marriage in the state in the past month. We arrested over 3,000 people, and only 900 of them got bail.”

On the ongoing eviction drive in Silsako Beel, the Chief Minister said, “Come what may, we will free wetlands from encroachers. We will dig a pond in an area of 400 bighas in Silsako to absorb water from the entire area. It is one way to tame waterlogging.”

On the grapevine, the government has left many bigger buildings in Silsako Beel untouched, the Chief Minister said, “I’m not in favour of Ginger Hotel, Omeo Kumar Das Institute, or other builders. They got permissions from the Congress governments. We will act against them if we detect any errors in the permissions given to them.”
