GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed the ban on PFI (People's Front of India) and its associate organizations by the Centre today.

The Chief Minister said, "We got the footprints of the PFI and the CFI (Campus Front of India) in the anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) agitation and the agitation against the eviction drive in Gorukhuti in the Darrang district. The members of these two organizations tried to create an unpleasant situation in the state."

The police sealed the PFI headquarters located at Hatigaon in Guwahati. The police have also started to seal the offices of the other banned organizations in the state. The police arrested as many as 36 PFI members and leaders from the state. The operation is still going on.

The Chief Minister said, "It is a bold and timely decision of the Centre, declaring the PFI and its associates unlawful. India of the Modi-era is decisive and bold. The government is firm in its resolve to ensure that anyone with diabolical, divisive or disruptive design against India should be dealt with an iron hand."

After the Gorukhuti incident leading to the death of two persons, the Chief Minister urged the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to ban the PFI and its associate organizations. The Chief Minister also sent evidence of involvement of the PFI and its associates in disruptive activities in the state.
