GUWAHATI: In a first in the state, two FPCs (Farmer Producer Companies) directly exported pineapples to New Delhi through a corporate buyer by maintaining all international export protocols.

The FPC exported 11 MT pineapples to New Delhi at the initiative of the Assam Agriculture Department under the aegis of the World Bank-funded APART (Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project). APART links farmers with their potential markets.

Additional Chief Secretary and Agriculture Production Commissioner Dr Ashish Kumar Bhutani flagged off the exports of the pineapple consignment sourced from Kamrup district Pineapple FPC (Boko) and Jinjiram Pineapple FPC (Goalpara) to New Delhi at a formal function at Bipanan Khetra, Panjabari, Six Mile in Guwahati.

Flagging off the exports, Dr Bhutani said that export-oriented agriculture farming replaced the traditional agriculture-based farming as stressed by the Assam Government.

State Director of Horticulture, Triranga Bharatiya Bora, APART's nodal officer Bimala Prasad Deuri and a few other agriculture officials were present at the programme.

The pineapple consignment sent to New Delhi in a refrigerator van will reach its destination on July 23 or the next day. Pineapple exports from the state will continue.
