GUWAHATI: Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, Director General of Police of the state, said on Friday that a "stock-taking" meeting will be held here on Saturday with police officers of adjoining districts with a view to apprehending accused persons who may be hiding in these districts on the strength of "essential links" after committing crimes in Guwahati city.

Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of a ceremony to formally announce the training of Assam Police commandos by the Indian Army, Mahanta further said that the police too faces some problems in apprehending absconding criminals and steps are being taken to overcome these issues in the greater public interest.

Replying to a query, the DGP said that Assam Police will not tolerate incidents of ragging. He added that if cases are found where the authorities of educational institutions have failed to act against ragging, then such authorities will also face police action.

He said that it is unacceptable that some members of the young generation are harassing other youths in the name of ragging even in the 21st century.
