GUWAHATI: Postgraduate teachers (PGT), whose teaching services were confined to Class XI and Class XII only, will now have to extend their service from Class VI to Class XII in all secondary schools of the State.
In an order issued by the Secretary to the Government of Assam, Department of School Education, on December 12, 2022, it was stated, "In the interest of the students and in consideration of the recommendation of the National Education Policy, 2020 and in consideration of the guidelines under Siksha Khetra Office Memorandum, most of the secondary-level schools are being upgraded to four class HS Schools or as per the Siksha Khetra guidelines; the Lower Primary, Upper Primary, High School and Higher Secondary Schools are being merged or amalgamated with the High Schools or Higher Secondary Schools. Most of the schools are now having Class I to Class XII in the same campus or there are schools from Class VI to Class XII in the same campus to facilitate smooth transition from class to class in the entire school education system.
The order further stated, "In view of the fact above, it is observed that the schools are having sufficient postgraduate teachers as teaching staff in the amalgamated or upgraded secondary-level schools. The standard of the courses and the syllabus are also being upgraded to national and global standard for competitive readiness of the students."
Hence, in supersession of all earlier orders, the PGT teachers will extend their teaching services from Class VI to Class XII in all the secondary schools of the State. The head of institution of the respective secondary schools have been asked to allocate classes to all the teachers in the school and particularly the PGT teachers accordingly.
