GUWAHATI: President of India Draupadi Murmu will arrive in Guwahati today on a two-day visit. It is her maiden visit to the state after assuming office in the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Arriving at the LGBI Airport from Tripura in the afternoon, she will go to IIT Guwahati, where she will virtually inaugurate/lay foundation stones for various projects of Union Ministries of Electronics & Information Technology and Health and Family Welfare, Assam. The projects include a Supercomputer facility 'Param Kamrupa' and a facility for the design and development of high-power microwave components at IIT Guwahati; Medical College and Hospital at Dhubri; and the Zonal Institutes of National Institute of Virology (NIV) at Dibrugarh (Assam) and Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh). In the evening, the President will attend a civic reception and cultural programme at the Assam Administrative Staff College, Guwahati.
On October 14, 2022, the President will virtually inaugurate/launch/lay foundation stones for various projects of the Assam Government and Union Ministries of Road Transport & Highways, Petroleum & Natural Gas and Railways. These include the launch of model Anganwadi Centres with modern facilities; and Mission Saubhagya; the inauguration of Rail-Fed petroleum storage depot of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. at Moinarbond, Silchar; two highway projects; foundation stones for 100 model Secondary Schools in the tea garden areas of Assam; two highway projects and modern cargo-cum-coaching terminal at Aghtori, Guwahati; and flag off of a train from Guwahati to Lumding up to Shokhuvi (Nagaland) and Mandipathar (Meghalaya).
Meanwhile, Health Minister Keshab Mahanta inspected the Dhubri Medical College and Hospital today. The government will hold a meeting at the medical college tomorrow when the President will virtually inaugurate it from IIT-Guwahati. It is the ninth medical college and hospital in the state.
