GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made it public that Congress MLA from Raha LAC Sashi Kanta Das would vote for the BJP and alliance candidates in the Rajya Sabha poll. The Rajya Sabha poll in the state will be on March 31.

After the Chief Minister's announcement, MLA Sashi Kanta Das admitted that he would vote for the BJP and alliance candidates in the Rajya Sabha poll.

Talking to the media today, the Chief Minister said, "I feel the BJP-led alliance will clinch both the Rajya Sabha seats. Raha MLA Sashi Kanta Das informed me today that he would vote for the BJP-led alliance candidates. Earlier also, he had made it public that he would extend all cooperation in government works."

When asked about the three-liner whip that Congress may issue, the Chief Minister said, "Such a whip does not work in the Rajya Sabha poll. It is applicable on the floor of the Assembly. However, MLAs have to show their ballot papers to their respective party's polling agents."

Later Sashi Kanta Das said, "I will vote for the BJP-led alliance candidates in the Rajya Sabha poll. Congress suspended me. It does not call me to CLP (Congress Legislature Party) meetings."

The Congress suspended MLA Das for his public announcement for extending cooperation to government works for the development of Raha.

The filing of nominations for the Rajya Sabha poll in the state will conclude on Monday.
