Ram Mandir consecration: Assam CM appeals for peace and harmony

Guwahati: In view of the consecration ceremony of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya tomorrow, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the district commissioners have been asked to deploy police and paramilitary forces in ‘sensitive’ areas so that no untoward situation is created and a conducive law and order situation is maintained.
He also appealed to people to restrain themselves in the celebrations, from doing anything that will impart a negative colour to the sacred ceremony tomorrow and help to maintain the law and order situation in the state. He also put out a special appeal to people from the Muslim and Christian communities to say special prayers for tomorrow’s occasion, which is a historical one. “Tomorrow’s Pran Pratistha of Ram Temple is not only a religious event. This is a triumph of the ‘Bharatiya Civilization,’ the CM said.
Along the same vein, the CM has asked the Congress party to avoid visiting Batadrava Than tomorrow in order to not create a conflict between the Ram Mandir and Batadrava Than. “There is no competition. Rahul Gandhi should not come and create competition, and that will be very sad for the people of Assam,” Sarma said in a press conference held at Janata Bhawan.
“I appeal to him to visit Batadrava Than after 2 p.m. He can also visit the birthplace of Mahapurush Sankardeva at Batadrava today. I am feeling a little bit of pain about the selection of tomorrow’s date. So they should have avoided it. But I will not ask them to avoid it officially because then they will create a tamasha (drama) that I am trying to stop. So police will be deployed. We will ensure that there is no conflict or clash. Because a particular section of people have come out in their yatra. It is not a secular meeting. Jagiroad, Morigaon, is very sensitive; you know the Nellie massacre took place only in that district. Why Rahul Gandhi has deliberately chosen Morigaon for tomorrow? I am feeling a little pent-up. Tomorrow he should have avoided Morigaon and Jagiroad considering the Nellie massacre and all of 1983, which is very sensitive from Assam’s point of view,” the CM added.
