GUWAHATI: Assam has administered over 4.50 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines so far, but the rate of administering precautionary (booster) dose is comparatively low as of now.
As on Friday evening, 4,50,78,889 doses of vaccine have been administered to people, which include 2,41,14,968 first doses, 2,05,40,753 second doses and 4,23,168 precautionary doses.
It may be mentioned that all fully vaccinated adult citizens (18+) who have taken 2 doses of vaccine became eligible for precautionary dose from April 10 last. Eligible citizens can avail precaution dose at any private vaccination centres, but they will have to carry their final certificate of vaccination with details of both earlier doses.
On the other hand, health care workers (HCWs), front line workers (FLWs) and citizens aged 60 year or more will continue to receive precautionary dose vaccination at any Government vaccination centre.
When contacted over the low rate of administering precautionary dose in the State, National Health Mission, Assam (NHM) officials said that they will create awareness regarding the necessity of taking the booster dose for ensuing personal safety as well as safety of the society.
