Rohingya trafficking: NIA Court, Guwahati frames charges against seven

GUWAHATI: The NIA Special Court, Guwahati, has framed charges against seven persons in connection with a case (1/2022) against the alleged trafficking of Rohingyas into India from across the international border through Assam and its neighbouring states and transporting them to the rest of India. The racket fabricates the identity and travel documents of the Rohingyas.

The NIA Special Court framed charges against Kumkum Ahmed Choudhury alias KK Ahmed Choudhury alias Asiqul Ahmed Choudhury, Ahiya Ahmed Choudhury alias Bulbul, Bapon Ahmed Choudhury alias Mithun, Sahalam Laskar alias Alam, Jamaluddin Choudhury alias Jamal, Wanbiang Suting and Mozid Ullah alias Mojid Ullah.

The NIA filed charge sheets against the first six of the seven trackers before the Court on June 4, 2022, under Sections 120(B)/370(3)(5) of IPC and submitted the supplementary charge sheet against the seventh accused (Mozid Ullah) on September 16, 2022, under Sections 120(B)/370(3)(5) of IPC and Section 14-A of the Foreigners Act, R/W Section 3 of Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1920, R/W Rule 6 of Passport (Entry into India) Rules, 1950.

Two other alleged Bangladeshi accused – Raju Ali and Nazim Uddin – are in judicial custody in the Guwahati Central Jail. The NIA submitted the second supplementary charge sheet against the duo on December 13, 2022.
