GUWAHATI: State Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass released funds to 3.8 lakh beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) at a function held at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati today.
Dass read out the written speech of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at the function. In the written speech, the Chief Minister said, “We have strengthened the mechanism to ensure that the genuine beneficiaries get the amount for the construction of the house under the PMAY-G directly in his or her bank account. Our target is to ensure that the last citizen of society gets social security. Food, clothing, and shelter are the basic needs of people. Our government stressed these three. All schemes like Orunodoi, old-age pension, divyang pension, etc., are aimed at ensuring the social security of people.”
Dass said, “We paid Rs 32,500 to each of the 3.8 lakh beneficiaries as the first installment under the scheme today. The government will pay Rs 1,244 crore for the first installment. In the past 20 months, we have released Rs 9,510 crore among the beneficiaries. PMAY-G will benefit around 19 lakh families in the state. We have completed the construction of 7.66 lakh houses so far.”
Dass appealed to the beneficiaries to inform the police if any middleman demands money for ensuring their PMAY-G installment. “We will take action instantly,” he said.
He added, “Around six to seven lakh beneficiaries under the flagship housing scheme are yet to get their own houses, for which funds will soon be released by the Centre.”
