GUWAHATI: Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameswar Teli today said that the hike in petrol and diesel prices was due to the increase in oil prices in the international market following the Russia-Ukraine war.

Talking to the media mere, Teli said, "Petrol and diesel prices depend on their international market prices. Oil prices will fall in India when their prices in the international market decrease. All countries have been facing the wrath of the Russia-Ukraine war, let alone India."

When asked if the petrol and diesel prices would come down, Teli said, "All the BJP-ruled state governments have slashed taxes on petrol and diesel a few months back. The Central Government also slashed taxes on oil – Rs 5 per litre on petrol and Rs 10 per litre on diesel."

The increase in oil prices led to the hike in the prices of all commodities as the transportation costs increased. Even motor transport associations have also raised the demand for an increase in bus fares. The State government has rejected the plea.
