GUWAHATI: The State Government has rescheduled the summer vacation of schools — from elementary to higher secondary. According to the new schedule, the summer vacation will be from June 25 to July 25 instead of July 1 to July 31.
The government decided to compensate for the academic loss due to the floods. Many schools suffered damage. The authorities use some schools as relief camps.
Taking to the newsmen here today, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said, "We decided this following approval from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma."
The Education Minister urged the private educational institutions to follow the same order for the convenience of the students and the teachers.
Pegu said, "Since the teachers are government employees, the government will deal with them in case of any violation of service rules like teachers working as LIC agents, journalists etc. We are screening such teachers."
On teachers engaged in other government duties like census, election etc., Pegu said, "Since they are government employees, they have to do other duties given to them by the government. Other officials are also doing such duties."
Regarding seats in HS classes, the minister said, "We have six lakh HS seats against four lakh students who passed the HSLC/AHM examinations. The scarcity of seats may be in urban areas only."
When asked about laptops as gifts to meritorious students, the minister said, "The Chief Minister will decide it. We are contemplating extending incentives to the schools that performed well in the HSLC/AHM examinations."
The minister said this while giving away free textbook grants under Pragyan Bharati Scheme to undergraduate students, 2021-22. Each of 3,54,341 students got Rs 1,000 through DBT mode.
