GUWAHATI: The SEBA (Board of Secondary Education, Assam) has spelt it out in no uncertain terms that the schools will have to upload the results of all internal examinations of Class IX and Class X in the portal of the board, failing which the board will not allow their students to take the final examinations.

The Secretary of the SEBA, Naranarayan Nath, has issued a notification in this regard. According to the notification, the NEP 2020 emphasizes continuous evaluation of the students at the secondary stage by way of classroom activities and examinations at various levels. “The ongoing system of holding unit tests, half-yearly examinations, and annual examinations will be in line with the recommendation of NEP 2020 only with proper recording of the marks obtained by the students in these examinations. Participating in each of these examinations by a student needs to be mandatory for acquiring eligibility for promotion to the next class. To achieve this goal, SEBA has made online provision for the recording of marks from unit tests, half-yearly examinations, and the annual examinations of classes IX and X in the existing marks entry portal. If a mark for any of these tests or examinations is not entered for a student at any level, the student will not be eligible to attempt the next examination at the school level and subsequently at the board level,” the notification said.

The schools that have not yet completed the entry of marks from the last class IX annual examination will have to complete the same by May 31, 2023, failing which the students will not be allowed to appear in the next examination. Further, in regard to Class IX registration in 2023, all schools are directed to complete their registration process by June 15, 2023, positively, the notification said.

The notification also said that the learning in the spoken English app for Class IX will start on June 16, 2023.

Speaking to the media, SEBA Secretary Nath said, “Earlier, the schools would have to enter the marks of the half-yearly examination of the class. However, according to NEP 2020, the schools will have to enter the students’ marks from all internal examinations in Class IX and Class X. Class IX has two unit tests: the half-yearly and the annual examinations. Class X has two unit tests: the half-yearly and the pre-board examinations. For a student to appear in the final board examination, his marks obtained in each of these examinations need to be entered in the portal against his registration number.”
