GUWAHATI: For security reasons and also to ensure no groupism or lobbying takes place among the persons arrested in the recent Sub Inspectors (SI-unarmed) recruitment scam, steps have been taken to keep them at various jails across the State, informed sources.

On Wednesday, the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) here rejected the bail petition of former Karimganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Kumar Sanjit Krishna and sent him to six days judicial custody. Krishna is now in Guwahati Central Jail. He will be produced before the Court again on October 27. A prime accused in the scam, Krishna was in the CID (Criminal Investigation Department) custody for the last five days.

The Court also sent Saroj Sarma – an accused middleman — to one-day judicial custody. Earlier, Saroj was under CID remand for 11 days. Saroj has been sent to Goalpara Jail. However, he will have to be produced before the Court on Thursday.

The same Court also sent Joydeep Barua – a close associate of former DIG (Deputy Inspector General) Prasanta Kumar Dutta – to Morigaon Jail. His judicial custody will be for six days.

On Tuesday, the CJM Court had sent Rubul Hazarika to Nagaon Jail. Rubul is a shareholder of the tainted Bongaigaon-based Akshay Tele Communication (one of the firms was slated to hold the written examination.) Rubul was the first person to reveal the name of former Karimganj SP Kumar Sanjit Krishna.

Meanwhile, the Gauhati High Court rejected the bail petition of Alakesh Baishya – one of the three owners of 'Thank You Lodge' at Ganeshguri in the city. It was in this lodge that a mock test was held on September 19 – a day before the examination was slated.
