GUWAHATI: The prime accused in the SI recruitment scam, former Karimganj SP (Superintendent of Police) Kumar Sanjit Krishna had struck a deal for leaking the question papers; and Rs 40 lakh changed hands in Guwahati.

According to CID sources, the deal was struck at a Zoo Road restaurant in Guwahati. On behalf of Kumar Sanjit Krishna, a couple received the amount of Rs 40 lakh as advance payment from broker Saroj Sarma.

Later on, constable of 8th APBn (Abhayapuri) Dipjyoti Saloi — an orderly of the former SP — received the amount from the couple; and handed it over to businessman Amarjit Lahkar of Sarania. Lahkar is a friend of Kumar Sanjit Krishna. CID sleuths arrested Lahkar and Saloi on Tuesday. Currently, they are under two-day CID custody.

During interrogation, Lahkar told CID that Rs 18 lakh (of Rs 40 lakh) has been already spent. Probe is on to find out the location of the remaining amount of Rs 22 lakh.

Mentionably, the former SP and broker Saroj Sarma were arrested earlier.
