GUWAHATI: The CID (Criminal Investigation Department) has been continuously grilling Prasanta Kumar Dutta at its Ulubari office here under a veil of secrecy. Only three officials have been allowed to question the former DIG (Deputy Inspector General) of Assam Police — who is reportedly the mastermind behind the recent scam over the recruitment of 597 SIs (Sub Inspectors-unarmed).

The officials grilling Dutta are Additional Director General of Police (ADGP Law & Order) GP Singh, Inspector General of Police (IGP-CID) Surendra Kumar, and IO (Investigation Officer) DSP (Deputy Superintendent of Police) Arup Mahanta. The CJM Court had remanded Dutta to six-day CID custody on Tuesday. The Assam Police is tight-lipped over the grilling process.

The CID will grill Dutta and Diban Deka together. Diban is one of a prime accused in the scam.

However, a source informed that Dutta has mentioned the names of a few high-level Police officials and also political leaders as links in the scam. He also said that Rubul Hazarika alias Rubul Ali is one of the scamsters. Rubul is one of the owners of the Bongaigaon-based 'Akshay Telecommunications' which is one of the three companies given the responsibility to conduct the SI recruitment examination across the State on September 20. Following this confession, this firm's office was sealed on Wednesday. The source added that Rubul may surrender soon.
