Six-member ECI Team Reaches Assam Ahead of Assembly Polls 2021

The team of officials from Election Commission of India reached Dibrugarh, Assam on Monday. They will further discuss the preparedness for Assembly Polls 2021

GUWAHATI / DIBRUGARH: To discuss the preparedness for the 2021 Assembly polls in Assam, a team of senior officials of the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday arrived in Dibrugarh.

The six-member team comprises ECI Director General Dharmendra Sharma, Senior Principal Secretary Narendra N. Butolia, Director (Expenditure) Pankaj Srivastava, Director (IT) Ashok Kumar, Director (Law) Vijay Pandey and Consultant (EVM) Vipin Katara.

The team held a meeting on Monday with the District Election Officers (DEOs) of 20 Election Districts and Superintendent of Police (SPs) in Dibrugarh. During the meeting, the DEOs made presentations highlighting the status of poll preparedness of their respective districts.

The DEOs gave the status with regard to electoral profile including health of Photo Electoral roll, Electors' Photo Identity Cards (EPIC), creation of auxiliary polling station in view of present COVID-19 situation, availability of manpower, availability and requirement of EVMs and VVPATs, availability and requirement of vehicles, requirement of security forces, status of deposition of arms licenses, status of first level checking of EVMs and VVPATs, seizure and destruction of illegal liquor and others.

Chief Electoral Officer, Assam, Nitin Khade was present during the Monday's meeting of the ECI in Dibrugarh. The ECI team will arrive in Guwahati on Tuesday and hold a meeting with the DEOs of 30 Election Districts on the same issues. Assam has 50 Election Districts.
