Sentinel Digital Desk

GUWAHATI: SSA (Samagra Shiksha Assam) Mission Director Dr. Omprakash detected the absence of 6,644 teachers and 797 non-teaching staff members in the Shiksha Setu Portal recently. He asked the district ADCs (Additional Deputy Commissioners), holding the charge of education, to personally ascertain why the teaching and non-teaching staff remain absent.

Dr. Omprakash came to know the absence of such a large number of teachers and non-teaching staff members in the Shiksha Setu Portal on November 21, 2023, when he was presiding over a webinar.

The SSA Mission Director asked the schools head teachers and class teachers to go the house students, who remain absent for four weeks, and bring them to their classrooms, so as not to let the school dropout rate go up.

He also asked the SSA’s block resource persons and the cluster resource centre coordinators (CRCCs) to ascertain, if the head teachers and class teachers actually go the houses of absent students to bring them to schools.

Most of the parents of students have changed their mobile phone numbers, and as such the district education authorities cannot contact them. Dr. Omprakash asked the district education officers (DEOs) and teachers to collect the mobile phone numbers of their students’ parents.

Dr. Omprakash also asked the CRCCs to complete the examination of school profiles immediately and the SSA’s district programmers to enter the data of schools and teachers’ profiles on UDISE (Unified Districts Information System for Education) plus 2023-24 by November 28, 2023.

According to the Shiksha Setu Portal, the total enrolment of students in schools in the state is 47,21,263, the total number of teachers is 2,12,028 and that of non-teaching staff is 21,977.
