The state cabinet today took several significant decisions, including the setting up of a new university at Gohpur in the memory of martyr Kanaklata Baruah, the approval of a bill to check unfair means in recruitment examinations, and the cabinet ministers' visit to Ram Mandir, among others.

Guwahati: The state cabinet today took several significant decisions, including the setting up of a new university at Gohpur in the memory of martyr Kanaklata Baruah, the approval of a bill to check unfair means in recruitment examinations, and the cabinet ministers' visit to Ram Mandir, among others.

On Monday, the cabinet decided that chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and all his cabinet colleagues would visit Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.

The cabinet also approved the Assam Public Examination (Measures for Prevention of Unfair Means in Recruitment) Bill. The bill will be tabled in the Assembly during the approaching Budget session. The Bill aims to provide effective measures to prevent and curb the offences related to leakage of question papers and use of unfair means at public examinations for the purpose of recruitment to any post under the state government, including autonomous bodies, and to provide special courts for the trial of such offences and for matters connected herewith or incidental thereto.

The cabinet also decided to set up a state university in Gohpur in the name of Swahid Kanaklata Baruah. In this connection, the cabinet approved a bill to establish the new university.

The state cabinet also approved the promotion of assistant professors at provincialized colleges.

The cabinet approved Rs 400 crore for all-round development of the BTC area under SOPD.

Briefing the media after the cabinet meeting, PHE minister Jayantamalla Baruah said, "Under Mission Basundhara 2.0, we provided land patta to 2.29 lakh people. Out of these, the majority of 84% were indigenous people, including ST 38%, SC 5%, OBC 37%, and MOBC 4%. Only 16% of general people got land pattas. The cabinet decided to de-reserve some VGR and PGR land, and this land will be allotted to indigenous people."
