GUWAHATI: The State Home and Political Department is worried over the alleged misbehaviour and demand of cash by a section of FT (foreigners tribunals) members, so is the Gauhati High Court.
The Home and Political Department, Assam and the High Court keep receiving complaints against a section of FT members. After receiving such complaints, the High Court sends them to the Home and Political Department.
The nature of complaints, according to a source in the Home and Political Department, are mainly misbehaviour with those related to FT cases and seeking money by a section of FT members.
Over the years, the Home and Political Department has been making do without any mechanism to deal with such complaints. It has all along been sending such complaints to the deputy commissioners concerned to ascertain their veracity. Of course, the department also feels that some of such complaints are baseless.
Since the High Court has already stipulated a three-week time for the department with effect from October 29, 2019 to draw up modalities for monitoring complaints being received against a section of FT members, the Home and Political is going to hold frequent meetings. It has to draw up the modalities within three weeks and place them (the modalities) before the High Court for its consideration.
The High Court order issued on October 29, 2019 was from the bench of Justice Suman Shyam.
