GUWAHATI: Storms claimed two human lives besides damaging several houses in various areas of the state during the past 24 hours. Storms, including hailstorms, have been lashing various areas in the state for the past few days. Storms and hailstorms caused much damage in upper and lower Assam and the Barak Valley last night.

According to the ASDMA (Assam State Disaster Management Authority), storms killed two men in the Tinsukia district last night. They are Bijay Manki (57), under Tinsukia Revenue Circle, and Dev Kumar Thakur (26) under Doomdooma Revenue Circle. The storm affected 41,410 people in 144 villages in seven districts in the state yesterday. The affected districts are Hailakandi, Tinsukia, Hojai, Goalpara, Cachar, Dhubri, and Bongaigaon. Tinsukia districts faced the worst wrath, with the storm affecting 54 villages. Forty-two villages were affected in the Dhubri district.

According to the ASDMA report, the storms fully damaged 205 kutcha houses and 636 partially; they also fully damaged three pucca houses and 42 partially.
