GUWAHATI: The State Health Department has set the target of August 31, 2021, for vaccinating all eligible people (above 18 years) in the Kamrup (M) district.

The average daily Covid-19 positive cases in Kamrup (M) were 150 in the past ten days. Worried about the situation, the department started a door-to-door inspection today to ascertain the number and whereabouts of people who have not yet taken Covid-19 vaccines.

Talking to the media here on Saturday, Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said, "If the people of Guwahati do not adhere to the Covid-19 protocol strictly, a doomsday scenario is inevitable in the metropolitan city. We have set the target of August 31 to vaccinate all eligible people in the Kamrup (M) district.

"Guwahati has 1,204 polling booths. We are using them as data points. Every BLO (booth-level officer), accompanied by an ASHA worker and a member of the local citizens' committee, has started going door-to-door from today with the voter list to verify the people who have not yet taken Covid-19 vaccines. This door-to-door inspection will continue till August 23. Based on BLOs report, the department will start a massive vaccination drive with a mission mode from August 25 to 31.

"Besides this, we have given a toll-free number – 8929103776. Any person who has not yet taken the vaccine can give a miss call to this number. The Health Department will call the person back, ensure the vaccine slot, date and venue of the inoculation.

"From now, every shop and shopping mall will have to display a self-declaration certificate of vaccination. Officials from the district administration will physically verify them. The entire vaccination drive will go on under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner."
