BOKO: The villagers of the Rajapara area under Chhaygaon Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) have alleged that the State Forest department has failed to stop deforestation, and the department never takes action against the smuggling of wood logs from Majaibari and Mawdangop to the riverine areas in Kamrup district.

The smugglers have been felling trees illegally in the forest reserve area under the West Kamrup divisional office, mainly Mawdangop, Mojaibari, Rajapara and Amrengkona. The villagers of the area said that they informed the department many times, but to no avail. Even on last Saturday, the villagers informed the Singra Forest Range, Boko of the timber smuggling, but the Ranger did not take the matter seriously, the villagers alleged.

On the other hand, the smugglers have been transporting logs day and night with the help of 10 to 20 minitrucks. The villagers have urged the State Government to take up the matter seriously.
