GUWAHATI: The AGP (Asom Gana Parishad) will be with the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) for more development of Assam, stressed party president Atul Bora while addressing a rally — 'Jatiya Oikya Samaroh' — at Azara near the city on Sunday.
The AGP has been in alliance with the BJP (BharatiyaJanata Party) since 2016. Minister HimantaBiswaSarma recently reiterated that the BJP will continue its alliance with the AGP in the forthcoming 2021 Assembly polls.
Bora added, "Assam has witnessed developments on multiple fronts since formation of the alliance government in Dispur. Irrespective of caste, creed and religion, all are enjoying equal rights in the State. The prime agenda of the AGP is to usher in more development in the State. This has been possible because of our alliance with the NDA."
Referring to the party, Bora said, "The base of AGP is quite strong now. This has been amply proved by the support of the masses to the party in our recent rallies. The new regional parties will not pose any threat to the AGP."
Targeting the AASU (All Assam Students Union), Bora said, "The AASU has lost its apolitical character by backing the new political party – AsomJatiyaParishad (AJP)."
On the resignation of Patacharkuchi MLA PabindraDeka from the AGP, Bora said, "His move will have no effect on the party. In the next Assembly elections, the AGP will get more seats than 2016."
Among others who addressed the rally were party's working president KeshabMahanta, RajyaSabha MP Birendra Prasad Baishya, and Guwahati (West) MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita.
Presently, AGP has 13 MLAs in the 126-member Assam Assembly.
