GUWAHATI: Anyone who has any complaint against any panchayati raj institution (PRI) member or panchayat employee, or if anyone wants to report anomalies in the implementation of panchayat and rural development schemes - like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)- can now call at the toll-free number 1800123235600.

Sources in the office of the Commissionerate of Panchayat and Rural Development said that this number will be active during office working hours. People can register their complaints by calling up this number. The authorities concerned will examine whether there is merit in the complaints and after that necessary action will be taken. This number will not be active during government holidays, added the sources.

On the other hand, under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), care has been taken to create the maximum number of mandays, the sources said further. The State Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) Department hopes to cross the target set by the Government of India. For 2021-22, the Centre had set a target of creation of 7.30 crore mandays for Assam. Till now, 7 crore mandays have been created. With one-and half-months still left for this financial year to end, the State P&RD Department hopes to cross the target.

Pertinently, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while addressing Block Development Officers (BDOs) and PRI members on Sunday, had laid stress on transparency and proper utilization of funds while implementing rural development schemes.
