GUWAHATI: A section of transferred primary school teachers has refused to join for duty in their new places of posting, needing the authority concerned to issue a stricture of taking action in the event of the transferred teachers defying the order.

The primary school teachers who have refused to join their new places of posting show varying reasons for not joining, including the difficult terrain of the new places.

Teachers working for ten years at the same places had the opportunity to apply online for their transfer to their desired places in two different modes: single transfer and mutual transfer. The portal meant for receiving the applications, hrmsassam.in, received around 22,000 applications until October 28, 2023. In fact, the portal was closed on October 28.

According to official sources, the Department of Education published a list of around 6,000 teachers-around 4,000 for mutual transfers and around 2,000 for single transfers. However, a section of teachers belonging to single transfer and mutual transfer modes are not keen to join their new places of posting as the places are not what they sought in their applications. They have cited various reasons, and one of them is difficult terrain.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Elementary Education (DEE) has issued a stern order asking the transferred teachers to join their places of posting without further delay, or else they will face punitive action.

The DEE has also asked the district elementary education officers (DEEOs) and the block elementary education officers (BEEOs) to relieve the transferred teachers immediately from their existing schools to let them join in their respective places of new postings.
