NEW DELHI: The coordination committee of tribal organizations on Monday said that they will launch an indefinite economic blockade in Assam in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).
Stating that CAB will not only change the demography of Assam but it will also pose as a threat to the indigenous people of northeast in general and Assam in particular, Aditya Khaklari chief coordinator of the organization said, “We will oppose the CAB tooth and nail…we are planning to launch an indefinite economic blockade in Assam opposing the bill.”
The coordination committee of tribal organizations is a combination of 24 tribal organizations of Assam.
Khaklari said that the Narendra Modi-led BJP government is playing with the people of the country. “They are creating religious differences by differentiating between the Hindus and the Muslims in CAB. It’s only their vote bank politics,” said Khaklari.
He said that his organization has been meeting leaders across different political parties.
“We will keep meeting leaders and get their support in opposing the CAB,” said Khaklari.
Meanwhile, a delegation of North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) on Monday called on Samajwadi party MP Javed Ali Khan in New Delhi and sought his party’s support in opposing the move.
