Triple murder sends shockwaves in Golaghat; accused surrenders

GOLAGHAT: Three members of a family were brutally killed on Monday afternoon on the Hindi School Road of Golaghat town under Golaghat police station. These murders have created sensation and panic in the town. The accused, Nazibur Rahman surrendered before police later in the evening. His 9-month-old baby was also with him.

The three family members have been identified as Sanjib Ghosh, Junu Ghosh and their daughter Sanghamitra Ghosh. Nazibur Rahman is Sanghamitra Ghosh's husband. He allegedly killed them in their residence with a sharp weapon.

According to information, three years ago, Sanghamitra married Nazibur, a resident of No. 3 Railway Gate of Golaghat town. As time passed, there was marital discord between the two. Sanghamitra had lodged a case against her husband for domestic violence. Nazibur had gone to jail for this.

According to sources, Sanghamitra went back to her parents' house with their 9-month-old baby. On Monday, Nazibur went to the house and killed his wife and in-laws. He then took his baby and fled. But later in the evening, he surrendered before the police. The baby was with him. Golaghat police took the baby to the Swahid Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital. Activists of many organizations gheraoed the police station and demanded stringent punishment for the accused.
